We Are Trying to
“Zone In” on Zoning
Regulations Estab-
lished By the City of Charlotte
In our independent, volunteer
association we applaud our diverse
backgrounds, hobbies, and living standards.
We are all the better for the diversity we have
in our neighborhood. However, responsible
citizenship expects regulations established by
the city government to apply and be followed
by all members of the community.
Our neighborhood is full of really nice
families who enjoy neighboring with one
another. Our homes, yards and daily activities
should serve to represent the quality of families
in Sardis Woods. While we have NO ability or
DESIRE to dictate to others, we will, as a
volunteer association, seek to inform and
encourage compliance with already existing
zoning codes that influence our neighborhood
appearance and safety.
The block captains will try to help their
neighbors in being compliant with the city’s
requirements, will inform the household of
failures to comply, and will notify the city if the
resident does not seek to change the problem
in a reasonable amount of time. All of this is
done with the goal of making Sardis Woods a
place where good people live in appreciation
and respect for each other.
Where Are We On
Entrance Signs?
For all our great neighbors
who helped us exceed our
money goal last November to fund the
replacing and upgrading of entrance signs on
Sunnywood, we are still working toward the
finished product.
At present, with questions about the
status of the vacant property where one sign is
situated, we are determining the best course of
action. Alan Smith (Sunnywood) a professional
brick mason is willing to direct a work team of
volunteers from Sardis Woods neighbors to
construct signs according to code that will
match the Covedale signs.
Block captains decided to move ahead in
this late spring to build the signs as soon as
possible. Our need to move forward makes the
involvement of the masonry class at CPCC
difficult to coordinate. They would not be able
to work on the signs until the middle of the fall
semester. While we are so pleased with the
work the Preston Gist and his class did to repair
the Covedale signs last spring, we feel moving
ahead under Alan Smith’s direction serves our
neighborhood in the best way. We NEED YOU
TO JOIN WITH OTHER NEIGHBORS TO GIVE
SOME TIME TO THIS PROJECT. Please contact
Larry Williams 704-847-3511 or
Dave Clark 704-845-1130.
So You Won’t Be in the Dark...
The goal of increased street lighting in Sardis Woods has been delayed because
the city failed to send the paper work to Duke Power. (as they had told us they
did!) Sardis Woods is now on an “expedite list” for the identification of needed
street lighting by Duke Power. Ellen Dillard (Covedale) is keeping up to date on
that project. Thank you Ellen!
