AND THEN THERE
WAS LIGHT!
There is nothing like check-
ing an entry off your “to do list”.
The Sardis Woods neighborhood did
just that on Thursday, November 9,
when Russ Ford (Watergate), Alvin
Hough (Covewood Court), and
David Clark (Covedale Drive)
handed petitions that had been
signed by Sardis Woods property owners who
approved the addition of some 40 street lights to
our neighborhood to a city official. These signa-
tures registered 332 homes as approving the
project. That number is 74.6% of the residents of
Sardis Woods.
Accepting the petitions was Mr. Sandy
Wise, Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s streetlight
coordinator. The city will now thoroughly review
the petitions to see that they comply with the city’s
requirements. The Sardis Woods Association
received the petitions (August 24). They were
given 90 days to gather signatures to meet the re-
quired 60% of the Sardis Woods property owners.
What happens next? To quote Mr. Wise
from an article on the Sardis Woods street light
project printed in the Charlotte Observer (October
5, 2006), “Once they collect enough signatures and
the city verifies them, officials will authorize Duke
Energy to install the 30 foot utility light poles.”
He goes on to say, “Duke Energy will order its
materials and, after they arrive, 30-45 days later,
schedule the work. The project will likely take six
to eight weeks to complete once the work is sched-
uled.
As we watch the project unfold, we can
take time to appreciate the hard work of 35 block
captains plus a street light committee of volun-
teers from Sardis Woods: Mark Beard
(Longbrook), David Callicott (Shadow Rock),
Ellen Dillard (Covedale), Dave and Judy Clark
(Covedale) plus an enthusiastic volunteer,
Beverly Skidmore (Longbrook).
WE’VE GOT YOU
COVERED!
For the first time since the neighbor-
hood began our Neighborhood Watch
program in the spring of 2005, and the
association evolved, every resident in Sardis
Woods is represented by a block captain. We
are a large subdivision, but we have
interested, motivated people who care about
their neighbors and the community. New
block captains include:
•
John and Susan Sullivan, and Lucy Nicoll
along with Elizabeth Kerman representing
Wintersett.
•
Anne Seals will serve as block captain for
Falls Church Road.
Do we hear a hand of applause?
All of the Block Captains from the Sardis Woods Neighborhood Association
would like to wish all of our neighbors a very joyous Holiday Season!
