Sardis Woods Neighborhood Newsletter Volume II, Issue 5
September, 2006
OUR DEADLINE CLOCK
IS TICKING—FINALLY
Nearly one year ago today, a team
was formed in Sardis Woods of
interested residents to begin the
process of asking for our dark
streets to be brighter. A process
we were told would take at least
90 days has FINALLY taken the
next step.
December 2005 we had word from the
city that they had received our request for the
lighting level in SW to be studied.
August 24, 2006 we now have our map/
petition of the lights that the Duke Energy
evaluators are suggesting be installed. Ninety
days from August 24
th
we must have signatures
of no less than 60% of the homeowners in
Sardis Woods for the project to move forward.
WE MUST BE VERY SURE THAT
EVERYONE SIGNING THE PETITION UNDER-
STANDS THAT WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE
INSTALLED THERE WILL NEED TO BE SOME
TRENCHING DONE FOR THE WIRING AND
NEITHER DUKE POWER NOR THE CITY OF
CHARLOTTE WILL REPLACE THE GRASS THAT
WAS ORIGINALLY IN PLACE. A RECENT BLOCK
CAPTAIN MEETING DISCUSSED WAYS WE CAN
HELP THOSE WHO HAVE TROUBLE REPLACING
THEIR GRASS. THAT IS STILL OUR GOAL AND
WE ARE DEVISING A PLAN FOR THAT.
The project has taken a great deal of
work to this point but unless we get the neces-
sary signatures and return the petition by the
deadline-NOVEMBER 15- the project dies. If
you are willing to talk to your neighbors and
help get petitions signed PLEASE CONTACT
your block captain and let them know you will
help.
IT TAKES ALL OF US TO MAKE OUR
NEIGHBORHOOD BETTER. YOU ARE
DOING A GREAT JOB – LET’S BE SURE WE
KEEP IT UP BY COMPLETING THE LIGHTING
PETITIONS AHEAD OF TIME WITH MORE THAN
THE MINIMUM SIGNATURES.
FOR A BRIGHTER, BETTER SARDIS
WOODS! THE PROJECT WILL ADD SAFETY
AND BEAUTY TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AS
WELL AS BEING A DETERRENT TO CRIME.
COMPUTER WEBSITE
FOR SARDIS WOODS
This summer, Rod Turnham (Covedale)
designed and set up our own website:
www.sardiswoods.org. If you are looking for
neighborhood event information, a way to
contact your block captain, or even a recipe
submitted by an neighbor, you will find it at
sardiswoods.org
Rod has designed a website that is very
protected, easy to use, informative, and fun to
read. Please don’t wait to check it out and do
check it often. If your Woods Watch gets
mislaid, you can even find it on the website.
Could it be any more convenient?
This is a great service to all Sardis
Woods residents that have computer
accessability, and we give Rod Turnham a big
www.thankyou.com.
